Art for everyone

Idea of municipal art museum is presented for the first time when the widow of Artist Franz von Lenbach has decided to trade this property with the City of Munich. However, she has proposed for the donation of complete furnishing in addition to some art work of Lenbachhaus. Due to kind heartedness of the lady, municipal art museum has able to see the light of the day.

Art pieces from the different location of the country are collected to offer an excellent place for the art connoisseur. For the placement of additional items of the museum, a wing has been created by the architect Hans Grassel. Therefore, if you visit the museum now then you can come across three separate wings. From the classical to the modern art can be experience in this place. Lately, contemporary art has been given prominence in the museum through collection of Sean Scully, Christian Boltanski, Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, Ellsworth Kelly and few others.

From the villa, it is possible to look at the Kunstbau which is an underground room. The room has been placed just over the underground station. You can be surprised to observe the beautiful architecture from Uwe Kiessler as the room has been created exclusively for video and film representation.
