Les Éditions Les Cahiers publishes various series of authors’ notebooks for almost a decade now. Each issue brings together a number of studies, interviews, testimonies, literary texts, etc. It was founded by Jean-Sébastien Gallaire who has always been interested in French avant-garde writers from the last century, and especially in the work of Michel Leiris to whom he devoted his Ph.D. and the first publication in Les Éditions Les Cahiers in 2007. With time, he has expanded his interest to other authors close to Leiris, like Georges Bataille or Laure (Colette Peignot). Thus there are “Cahiers Leiris”, “Cahiers Laure”, “Cahiers Bataille”, “Cahiers Aragon”, all published by the same publishing house, but by different teams.

This Saturday, November 26th, in Paris, the people behind this noteworthy project will be celebrating the launch of the third issue of “Cahiers Bataille“ edited by Olivier Meunier, the expert in the work of Georges Bataille (1897-1962). As explained by Monika Marczuk, managing editor of the publication, “Cahiers Bataille“ is quite diverse and includes works of artists (photography, drawing, literary texts, poetry) and researchers (philosophers and critics) on more than 250 pages. The diverse horizons of contributors offer a cross-reading of the work of one of the most important writers and thinkers of the 20th century. All the works were made specifically for the publication and some of the authors will be speaking about their contributions at tomorrow’s event.

So, if you are a fan of Bataille’s complex work and happen to be in Paris this Saturday, we encourage you to pop around to “Madame Louis” bar on the Ile Saint-Louis at 6 p.m.  and get acquainted more closely with this great project and the people behind it. You can find more details about the event here.
